Abstract: Engineering students, throughout their undergraduate education, strive to gain competency in technical subjects. In addition to being technically competent in their fields, today’s engineers must also possess excellent communication skills in order to make a difference and be successful in their chosen career paths. This talk focuses on 'using oral exams' as an assessment method in engineering courses. The advantages of using this inquiry-based, presentation-oriented, learning/teaching technique and also possible ways to overcome certain difficulties associated with it will be discussed.
