TED University Center for Teaching and Learning is inviting all our academics to the seminar entitled “Increased Cooperation and Collaboration of Various Courses in a Semester: The History/Theory Courses in TEDU Department of Architecture in their Relation to the Studios” by Assist.Prof.Dr. Bilge İmamoğlu.

Abstract:

A direct and productive interrelation of all departmental courses in any given semester has been a major goal for the Department of Architecture in TEDU since the beginning, both in terms of curriculum design and course design. In this presentation, the series of courses on the history and theory of architecture (ARCH 121 Introduction to Architecture, ARCH 221 History of Architecture I and ARCH 222 History of Architecture II) will be overviewed in terms of their methods and components that are specifically re-designed in terms of the courses' relations to respective design studios ARCH 101, ARCH 201 and ARCH 202. A major component in this re-designing is, naturally, re-considering the course content; yet in this presentation, a rather secondary component, the course practices and activities that are re-shaped in terms of their relations to the students' design activities will receive more emphasis, as they can introduce a rather discipline-free discussion, focusing on learning methods. The main argument will be on our department's search for the dynamic and constructive inter-relation between the objective methods of research and subjective components of design practices.
