Biography of Dr. Anne Nevgi
My full name is Anne-Marja Sinikka Nevgi. I was born at Hamina 6th of September 1953, and I am citizen of Finland by birth. I passed the matriculation examination at 1972 (Upper Secondary School of Hamina) and began my studies in Educational Sciences at 1974. I worked as a library assistant and a librarian at Undergraduate Library of University of Helsinki during years 1977-1990, and completed Master Degree in Educational Sciences at 1993. After receiving M.Ed., I got a position as a lecturer at a Department of Education of University of Helsinki, and began my doctoral studies. I defended my doctoral thesis at December 1998, and got a position as a senior lecturer of University Pedagogy at 1999 in Department of Education, University of Helsinki. As my first efforts, I worked for establishment of Centre for Research and Development of Higher Education (established 2002) together with professor Kauko Hämäläinen (2002-2003) as during those days I could see that without establishing Centre it would not be possible to coordinate and conduct research-based development of University Pedagogy. Since 1999 I’ve developed the Programme of University Pedagogy (60 ECTS) and since 2009, the Programme of University Pedagogy has included Teacher License. Besides working as an educator and a developer of University Pedagogy, I’ve conducted research focusing on learning in web-based learning environments (1998-2004) self-regulation in learning (2000-), academics’ teacher identity (2003-), effect of pedagogical development to academics’ approaches to teaching (2003-2007, 2008-), prior knowledge in learning (2004-2010), academic leadership (2007-), academics’ experiences on student plagiarism (2009-). I’ve supervised two doctoral theses [Liisa Postareff (2007), Telle Hailikari (2010)] together with professor Sari Lindblom-Ylänne, and currently I’ve three doctoral students. I’ve supervised more than 60 master theses of educational sciences, adult education and university pedagogy.
Currently I work as a University Lecturer of Higher Education at Centre for Research and Development of Higher Education, at University of Helsinki. My current research focuses on development of teacher reflection for academics, academics’ experiences of student plagiarism, and my newest research project is “Taboos of teaching and research in higher education” that began on Spring 2015.
